Let nature do the work for you!
Fall is a great time to enjoy yourself!
Don’t worry about doing a ton of clean up in your garden. It will benefit your garden as well as beneficial insects and birds by:
Providing Food- Leaving the stems and seed heads of your plants provides habitat for stem-dwellers as well as seeds for birds.
Creating Free Fertilizer- The plants and trees have absorbed nutrients from the ground and will replenish the soil as they fall and eventually decompose.
Supporting Beneficial insects- Insects set up their overwintering retreat or lay eggs under the leaves. Examples: Butterflies, Native bees (not honeybees), Fireflies.
🍂 Garden Tip of the Month 🍂
Are you confused or frustrated when you hear “Leave the Leaves”?
You aren’t alone. Here are guiding principles to consider:
🍂Leave a single layer or sparse leaves. They won’t kill the grass.
🍂Move leaves as little as possible.
If you must mow & use the mulch setting, do it early in the fall and only for a portion of the leaves.
Designate a spot on your property for sticks, logs, grass and leaves which all provide great overwintering habitat. `
For leaves that drop late onto the grass, gently rake to the designated spot.
Keep leaves onsite as much as possible.

"Alyson was so helpful. I did a one hour walk through and learned more about gardening than I could have in 8 hours on the internet. If you are overwhelmed with a garden project, I highly recommend working with sassy daffodil!”
