Thirst Trap or Draught Tolerance?

June is a magical month in the garden with lots of growth, colors, life and maybe even a harvest for the dining table.

Pests start showing up to the party too. If it is a wet season, you might start seeing slugs, their slimy tracks and their damage to your plants.

Put Pabst Blue Ribbon on the job!

Let’s make beer traps:

  • Gather some shallow dishes. Repurposed wet pet food or tuna cans work great.

  • Fill each dish/can about ½ way with a yeasty beer (PBR is the best)

  • Place the traps in areas near your seedlings and watch the slugs haul tail to the suds (only if you want to). They are nocturnal and most active at night.

  • Dump the traps daily and refill as needed.

🌺 Garden Tip of the Month 🌺

Get a rain gauge. This will let you know how much water your garden actually got from the skies. Generally, you want your plants to get about 1 inch of water a week, and up to 2 inches in high heat times. If mother nature doesn’t provide it, then you need to. For in-ground beds, watering deep every few days, versus a frequent sprinkle, encourages the plant to grow longer roots and develop better drought tolerance.

"“...to say that Alyson delivered a knock-out garden plan would be an understatement! We needed a plan that we could incrementally install, and she absolutely nailed it!

Alyson is professional, kind, and can really take all your many words and ideas and turn them into something breathtakingly beautiful!  I cannot recommend her highly enough."
